The Village of Lakeway Texas is a beautiful lakefront community just west of Austin. While settlers were drawn to the area since the 1840s, the town of Lakeway actually began with the construction of a 48-room hotel, the Lakeway Inn, now Lakeway Resort and Spa, a 168-room full service resort. Ground was broken October 1962 and the grand opening was July 12, 1963. This development was enabled by the construction of a series of dams along the Colorado River which were designed and built in the 1920s and 30s. Once flood concerns were under control, developers began buying up parcels of land that overlooked the crystal waters of Lake Travis, and it wasn’t long before the area went from a recreational/retirement community to the vibrant area that we know today.

According to the 2000 census, Lakeway had 8,000 inhabitants, 3,124 households, and 2,496 families residing within its boarders. With five golf courses within the city, many nearby marinas and a mild climate, Lakeway is a city of recreation. Rolling hills, Lake Travis and emerald hills are the backdrop for a lifestyle that excels in water sports, sun worship and leisure. Excellent dining and shopping establishments are at your fingertips and the excellent Lake Travis school system has changed Lakeway from a retirement community to a home buying destination for the whole family.
